The tool will tell you first and foremost if your property is eligible for a detached ADU (garden suite, tiny home, backyard home), as detached is the most restrictive type of ADU. If your property meets the requirements for a garden suite, it will most likely permit attached/internal ADUs.
After entering your address, you’ll see one of the following suitability scores:
What are the eligibility levels?
Your lot appears to meet the basic zoning requirements for building a detached ADU.
This lot is on a conservation authority regulated area. Special considerations and permits are required for a detached ADU.
A detached ADU on this lot is not permitted. The lot appears to meet the basic zoning requirements for an attached ADU.
The property does not meet the basic requirements to add any ADU (attached or detached).
The tool also provides:
